About Us

Herbert Akins Road Elementary School is a four-track, year-round school serving over 1,000 students as part of the Wake County Public School System. Since opening in 2009, HARES has been built around a clear belief: every student is uniquely capable and deserves to be challenged in meaningful, relevant learning every day. With approximately 125 staff supporting 48 grade-level classrooms and beyond, our school is a place where students develop into independent thinkers, effective communicators, and confident learners ready for whatever comes next.

The HARES PTA exists to deepen that foundation. We're a community of parents, caregivers, and families who believe that what happens outside the classroom matters just as much as what happens inside it. With 125 active families in 2025–2026, we show up to support our teachers, strengthen connections across our four tracks, and make sure every Hawks family feels at home here.
